Sylvaine comes from the West of France, she has always been a true art lover, drawing and painting for as long as she can remember. She focused on art and design subjects in school, studied a year in a graphic design and illustration school in Nantes. Followed by a-two-year traditional jewellery training in l’Ecole TANE in Brittany. Never without a sketchbook, she collects them like journals where jewellery design ideas mix with expressive, surrealist or traditional drawings. Each design appears to her first as a vision that she translates in 3D using silver, gold, and gemstones. Sylvaine uses many different techniques and especially enjoys hand-engraving and wax carving processes. Inspired by mystical forests, dreams and tales. she sees faces in everything and they appear a lot in her work.
Sylvaine developed her “Jewel-Objects” soon after graduating in 2009. She had a desire to blend her two passions: jewellery and illustration, to create something totally unique and playful. The intention here is to give life to a piece when it’s not being worn; the jewel itself is embedded in a small painted wooden sculpture and becomes the heart of a colourful world or supplies the missing fragment of the story… The jewel and the painting merge together. It’s a way to add context /meaning to a piece of jewellery. It also adds a sense of wonder and surprise when one comes to realise the secret hidden behind the colourful scene.
